Artwork includes paintings, ceramics, photographs and multimedia installations at the Mexican Museum in San Francisco.

A new art exhibit is opening at San Francisco's Mexican Museum on Friday, part of the museum's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Tequila Don Julio Collection, which features work from 17 contemporary Mexican and Mexican-American artists, will now be part of the museum's permanent collection, said museum curator David de la Torre.

The artwork, which includes paintings, ceramics, photographs and multimedia installations, were on a tour around the U.S. and "we're really excited to have them back in San Francisco."

The exhibit is part of the museum's celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. It will run alongside another exhibit called "Images, Independence and Revolution," which reflect on the anniversary on Sept. 16 of Mexico's revolution and independence, de la Torre said.

The museum is open Wednesdays through Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. in Building D at Fort Mason Center.
