'Operation Silver Dragon' Planned in Half Moon Bay Thursday
The emergency preparedness operation will happen in the morning, county officials said.
San Mateo County officials are warning Half Moon Bay residents that they may see some local emergency preparedness volunteers canvasing local neighborhoods Thursday.
They’ll be going around Half Moon Bay, El Granada and Pescadero between 9 a.m. and noon for ‘Operation Silver Dragon,’ according to the office of emergency services.
“This exercise involves deploying trained and vetted volunteers from the Coastside Emergency Corps, delivering reusable shopping bags that contain emergency preparedness literature,” the agency said. “It simulates distribution of important information or medicine that might take place during a real emergency.”

Here’s more on the operation:
“This year’s exercise is designed to simulate a widespread power outage, and teams will be performing mock welfare checks, looking for vulnerable populations in need of electricity for medical devices or those with other kinds of medical fragility who may be impacted by a power outage. VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT KNOCK ON YOUR DOOR or disturb you in any other way. They are not soliciting anything. Bags will be left on your doorstep if it is easily accessible.”
