Ride the tide from the Golden Gate to San Pablo Bay with staff instructors Sean Morley and Kenny Howell This is a spectacular 14 nautical mile one-way traverse of the North Bay. Launch at 9 a.m. at Presidio Yacht Club in Fort Baker, Horseshoe Cove under the Golden Gate Bridge, and go with the current up to San Pablo Bay, stopping off at Red Rock Island if conditions permit. $109/person. Tour dates for a 2.5-hour harbor tour with optional Half Moon Bay Brewery Apres Surf ($49-$99) are TBD at this point. All tours include board and paddle rental. If you have your own board and paddle and want to join a tour, tour price only is $10 per trip. Wetsuits not provided but get 15 percent off wetsuit purchase for any SUPper Club Tour participants. Beginner or slower mountain bikers on our monthly slow ride every 4th Saturday of the month. This ride at Wilder Ranch State Park will be at a more leisurely pace. There will probably be an intermediate/advanced group for the regulars and fast riders as well. The slow ride is beginner friendly but does require fitness and controlled off-road bike handling skills. Meet at 10 am at the park sign at just north of the tunnel under Highway 1. The best way to get to the meeting spot is to park in the Wilder Ranch parking lot, walk your bike through the Ranch area, past the barn, chickens and garden, ride under the highway using the tunnel and you should see the park sign by the cattle gate. ROMP: Responsible Organize Mountain Pedalers, October 29, 2011
Annual ROMP Halloween Costume Mountain Bike Ride, Purisima to Half Moon Bay and back. Advanced Intermediate Ride Starts at the Purisima Parking Lot on Skyline Blvd just north of Kings Mountain Road at 9:30 a.m. This is a mountain bike ride with over 30 miles and 3,500 feet climbing. Thirty percent paved roads closer to Half Moon Bay. The ride includes visits to preselected pumpkin patch for photo opts and a break. Maps will be provided. Prizes awarded back at the Purisima parking lot for those bringing back the most weight in pumpkins purchased, oddest-looking pumpkin, weirdest pumpkin stem, etc. Prizes awarded for best costumes. Half Moon Bay Yacht Club, Women Sailing Group, October 27, 2011
The HMBYC Women Sailing Group meets once a month on the fourth Thursday. In November, meetings are at 6:30 on the third Thursday because of Thanksgiving. No meetings in December with meetings starting up again in January, February and March at 6:30 p.m. for sailing seminars. Women sailing begins meetings around 5:30 p.m. with only sailing. Half Moon Bay Yacht Club, Sailing on Sundays and Sunday Skipper, ongoing

Masters: The newly formed Mavericks Masters team, coached by Bill Saxsenmier and Cindy Lee, offers coached practices for those swimmers who compete and for those who would like to structured practices in a group environment. Swimmers must be registered with USA Masters. MAV Masters practice times are: Monday - Friday: 5:30 – 7 a.m., 6:00 - 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Lap Swim: Lap swim is for those of any age 18+ wishing to swim on their own and at their own pace. Lap swim times are the same as above for Masters. $60 for a 10-swim pass or unlimited access pass to adult/masters sessions in a calendar month. Meet at 9 a.m. at the main Windy Hill parking lot on Portola Road and climb to the top, then return on another leg of the loop. This time I plan to go in reverse: we'll go up Hamm's Gulch and come down Spring Hill. Hike is approximately 7.2 miles and is moderate to strenuous. From Interstate 280 in San Mateo County, exit Alpine Road (exit 22). Drive west about 3 miles, and turn right at the first stop sign, onto Portola. Drive about 0.8 mile, and turn left into the parking lot. $12 membership dues to cut down on non-participation and to assist in the cost of running the Meetup group site, paying for essentials at picnics and other events and the time and effort involved in running an active group. This guided eco-hiking tour along the Half Moon Bay coastline is four hours long. The tour has easy trails along the Pacific coastal bluffs and secluded beaches on your way to tide pools. The tour visits local points of interest and hikers are bound to see wildlife such as harbor seals, brown pelicans, wild flowers and marine life. Located at 1828 Cabrillo Highway in Half Moon Bay, Sea Horse Ranch is open seven days a week at 8 a.m. The one-hour trail ride is $55; 1.5-hour trail and beach ride is $65; and two-hour trail and beach ride is $75, which includes the Coastal Equestrian Trail that travels farther onto the bluffs above the ocean, and then down onto Poplar Beach, north on Poplar Beach for about 20 minutes, and then back to the Ranch on Cabrillo Highway. For the early bird special ride, which is $50 for the 2-hour trail and beach ride, get to the front gage by 8 a.m. to qualify. Bring sweatshirts or jackets. Every Saturday morning at 8 a.m. the Coastside Running Club meets at in Moss Beach. This is a fun social run to stay in shape and talk about upcoming races, training, life, and more. The usual route is to head south through the forest, through the Moss Beach Distillery, and along the bluffs to Pillar Point Harbor (near Mavericks waves) and then back. Zombie Runner Halloween Run Marathon, Sunday, October 30, 2011
Run on sections of the Bay Trail and enjoy the beauty of San Francisco Bay at the Zombie Runner Halloween Run Marathon. Meet at 7 a.m. at the Baylands Athletic Center, 1900 Geng Road off of Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto. Dress up to run in your best costumes and stand to win prizes. Three costume contests will be held approximately at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. near the finish area. You must have competed in the event in your costume to qualify for the contest. Fully stocked aid stations every 2.5 - 4 miles. You can expect fresh fruit, salty snacks, assorted candy, water, and Clif Shot Electrolyte sports drink. It is highly recommended that runners carry at least 20 oz. of water between aid stations. Zombie Runner is hosting the pre-race Packet Pick-up Party at their Palo Alto store, 429 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94306 on Saturday, Oct. 29 from 1 to 6 p.m. There is a 7.5-hour time limit for all distances. Hikers welcome.
