Senz, the driving force behind the Dream Machines Show, originated the idea when the CADHC board of directors asked him to help start a fundraiser.
Thinking about an event that would attract a broader base of visitors, participants and vendors, Senz and the board directors decided on the Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show. “I knew in my heart it would be a success,” Senz says.
His heart was right on the money. Thousands of visitors have passed through the Dream Machine gates over the years garnering tens of thousands of dollars.
He and wife Barbara moved to the San Mateo Coastside in the 1970s, opened Ocean Shore Hardware, and have been involved with community ever since.
“The Coastside Adult Day Health Center has grown and prospered over the years, due in no small part to the support from the community at large and the Dream Machines Show in specific,” said Chad Hooker, Dream Machines Show Committee Chair. “Bob had a clear vision for the Dream Machines. The larger community also benefits from this marquis event that brings tourists and dollars to the coast and helps support the numerous non-profits that participate.”
Hooker credits Senz with doing the work himself for the first few years. Now there are about 150 volunteers who staff Dream Machines Show.
Janie Bono-James, CADHC Executive Director, calls the Dream Machines Show “my favorite time of year!” She said she is gratified to see all the volunteers working for the good of the community. Along with creating and developing the show, she also applauds Bob for enlisting the wonderful volunteer crew.
Senz has many wonderful memories from the past 25 years. “The thing I’ve truly enjoyed most over the years has been watching and listening to parents and grandparents share and talk about their experiences with the machines with their children and grandchildren,” he says. “That’s the best part.”
To show a car, the registration fee is $40 ($50 for entries postmarked after April 15) and includes a dash plaque and admission for two people.
