Rotarians Sell Out 2100 Clam Chowder Bread Bowls at Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival
Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay raises funds at Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, with over 2100 clam chowder bowls sold this year
The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay sponsored its annual clam chowder booth at the world-famous Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival October 17 and 18. Over 2100 servings of clam chowder served in bread bowls and another 500 bowls in cups were doled out, with the proceeds going to support Club operations for the year.
This event exemplifies the spirit of community fellowship and “Service Above Self” ideals of Rotary, with 70 Rotarians, friends, family, and students volunteering over the weekend. Starting with preparation on Friday by drilling holes into 2100 loaves of bread and hollowing them out to the secret recipe preparation early morning on Saturday to brisk booth sales to clean up on Sunday evening, club members emerged exhausted but exhilarated at the opportunity to serve the community.
There was a distinctly international flavor to this year’s volunteer force, with 9 Rotary high school exchange students representing Germany, France, Taiwan, among other countries lending a helping hand. Half Moon Bay High School members of Interact – a community service club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay – also pitched in with high energy sales and support.
