December also marks the kickoff for two major fundraisers the Club sponsors in early 2015.

The Club’s biggest event of the year is Magic of the Coastside with dinner and entertainment provided by the Blue Street Jazz Band scheduled for March 21, 2015. Funds raised support the Club’s signature cause, the Coastside RotaCare Clinic. At this event, the Service Above Self Award will be announced for an outstanding volunteer from the Coastside community. Nominees can be volunteers from any nonprofit group, and those interested in recognizing a selfless volunteer should contact Service Above Self Award chairperson Susan Kealey at skealey@coastside.net.

Plans are also in full swing for Spaghetti Feed to End Polio Now on January 27 at the new Half Moon Bay Senior Center. The eradication of polio worldwide is a long-standing goal of Rotary International, and every dollar raised for End Polio Now is matched 2 to 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. With just 3 countries remaining with endemic poliovirus and a 99% reduction in cases over the 30-year lifetime of this campaign, the goal is close.

December lunch programs featured Allan Frumkin, Past Rotary District Governor on December 4, club planning for its major fundraiser Magic of the Coastside December 11, and the Club annual membership meeting on December 18 – with Shop Talk by Rotarian and attorney Bill Johnston.

The fifty plus members of the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay donate time and money to support the under-served in the community and around the world. The Club’s signature local cause is RotaCare, the free medical clinic for the uninsured in Half Moon Bay and the surrounding Coastside communities. The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay is one of 34,000 clubs around the world. The Half Moon Bay Club meets each Thursday for lunch at the Portuguese Center at 724 Kelly Street in downtown Half Moon Bay. http://www.rotaryofhalfmoonbay.com/
