Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay Kicks Off Summer of Community Giving: $10,000 to Coastside RotaCare Clinic

The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay presented a $10,000 check to the Coastside RotaCare Clinic. Members are busy volunteers in coming months.

In what has become an annual tradition, Club President Dianne Bobko presented a $10,000 check for the Coastside RotaCare Clinic to site administrator Karen Larson on May 7. The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay is a major supporter of this organization which provides free medical care to the under-served members of the local community. This year’s donation was made possible by Magic of the Coastside, the annual fundraiser for the Club. This year’s event raised over $16,000 for RotaCare and for other Club-funded projects.

The donation kicked off a season of giving and voluntarism for the Club. The Club not only raises funds but also gives back to the local community by lending a helping hand around Half Moon Bay. Just a few of the places community members will see Rotarians over the coming weeks include:

· Half Moon Bay High School. Club members, in partnership with the Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber, will be on site to work with seniors the week of May 18th to develop career development skills such as resume writing, financial planning, human resources, computer skills, and even “interviewing” for jobs. This practical week of workshops is offered annually at Half Moon Bay, Pescadero, and Pilarcitos High School.

· Half Moon Bay High School. The Club has formed a Relay for Life team to raise money for the American Cancer Society and the cancer research it funds. The team is well on its way of reaching its $2,000 goal with over $1,100 raised for the July 25th event.

· Half Moon Bay Main Street. On the 4th of July, Rotarians will march in the annual hometown 4th of July parade to raise awareness for the support the Club provides to support the under-served in the community and around the world.

The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay is one of 34,000 clubs around the world. Rotary International’s signature cause is the eradication of polio, and the end is in sight with just three countries in the world with endemic cases. The Half Moon Bay Club meets each Thursday for lunch at the Portuguese Center at 724 Kelly Street in downtown Half Moon Bay. http://www.rotaryofhalfmoonbay.com/
