Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay Relay for Life Team Scores for the American Cancer Society

Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay raises $6,000 at the Half Moon Bay Relay for Life 24 hour event July 25-26 at Half Moon Bay High School

25 Rotarians, friends, and family walked from 10 AM on July 25 to 10 AM July 26 at the Half Moon Bay Relay for Life, raising $6,000 for cancer research. This community event brought together people whose lives have been affected by cancer – survivors, caregivers, and those who have lost loved ones. Shana Reilly-Pond, Rotary Club member and team leader, is thrilled with the team’s results, “Once we raised $5,000, we achieved gold status and set the bar for next year’s event. I’m new to the Club but understand this was our first time to have an official team. I’m passionate about this cause but it would not have been possible without the members who raised funds and showed up to walk, man the booth, and enjoy fellowship with each other and with the community.”

This year’s Relay for Life Half Moon Bay raised a total of $60,000 from 16 teams and was held on the quad of Half Moon Bay High School. Shana and her family camped on campus to ensure 24-hour coverage. Special honors go to Shana’s daughter Ashley-Anne Reynolds-Pond who walked an astonishing 125 laps (25 miles) and Rotarians Mitone Griffiths, Paul Wrubel, Stacy Trevenon, and Dan Miller who walked through the late night and early morning hours.

The Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay is one of 34,000 clubs around the world. Rotary International’s signature cause is the eradication of polio, and the end is in sight with just three countries in the world with endemic cases. Locally, the club is a major supporter of the RotaCare Clinic which provides free medical care to the under-served members of the Coastside community. The Half Moon Bay Club meets each Thursday for lunch at the Portuguese Center at 724 Kelly Street in downtown Half Moon Bay. http://www.rotaryofhalfmoonbay.com/
