WEATHER ALERT: Lots of Heavy Rain to Continue in Half Moon Bay

National Weather Service officials are predicting a wet Christmas week here in the Peninsula.

Today will likely see rain in the morning, followed by rain in the afternoon. Highs will be in the upper 50s and south winds will reach 10 to 15 miles per hour, becoming southwest winds reaching around 20 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight will see rain, with heavy rain at times. Lows will be in the mid 50s and west winds will reach around 20 mph.

Tuesday will likely see showers. Highs will be in the lower 60s and west winds will reach 15 to 20 mph.

Here’s the full forecast from the National Weather Service for the Half Moon Bay area for the next few days:

  • Today: Rain likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. South southwest wind 9 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Tonight: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 52. West wind around 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Tuesday: Rain before 10am, then showers likely after 10am. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 60. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday Night: A chance of showers before 4am, then a chance of rain after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. Northwest wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of rain, mainly before 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Northwest wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 44. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
  • Thursday: Rain. High near 53. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
  • Thursday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41. Breezy.
  • Christmas Day: A slight chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 54.
  • Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.

The rainfall totals are on top of a good weekend soaking.
