Well or Spring Running Dry?

If you use a well or spring for your home's water, make sure you have enough safe-to-drink water during the drought.

If you use a well or spring to supply water to your home, chances are it’s been running a little lower than you’d like.

While we’re in a drought, it’s important to ensure that you have enough safe-to-drink water for you and your family.

  • Drill a new, deeper well
  • Connect to a public water system, if possible
  • Arrange for water delivery

If you decide to use delivered water, do it safely. Use a licensed delivery company and ensure that water in your storage tank has a detectable chlorine level of 1 part per million. Even so, it’s still not advisable to use delivered water for drinking or food preparation, including washing produce. You can use it for things like flushing the toilet, showers and washing clothes.

Finally, remember to conserve as much water as you can. Make sure you have low-flow fixtures installed, and there are no leaks, drips or running toilets in your home that may be wasting water.
