• Bicyclist Killed By Driver In East Bay: Police (patch.com) — A 62-year-old bicyclist died after a collision just after midnight Monday at Harder and Soto roads in Hayward, and police are still investigating what caused the crash. The 52-year-old Hayward driver stayed at the scene and cooperated, and investigators say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors. Anyone who saw anything is urged to contact Hayward police.

• Cabrillo football program postpones home opener (fresnobee.com) — Cabrillo College has postponed its football home opener against Feather River to Oct. 3 after a rash of injuries, many stemming from an 80-13 season-opening loss to Chabot in Hayward. With 17 players hurt and limited depth, coaches and administrators said player safety had to come first. The Seahawks now aim to regroup before hosting Contra Costa on Sept. 12.
