1 Dead In River Road Crash Between Motorcyclist, Pedestrian

The fatal crash along the Russian River happened Tuesday afternoon.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA— The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified a pedestrian who died after he was struck by a motorcycle in west Sonoma County Tuesday afternoon as James Greer, 70, of Guerneville. Greer was crossing River Road just east of Orchard Road in Guerneville around 1:55 p.m. when he failed to notice a motorcycle traveling east on River Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Jon Sloat said.

The motorcycle rider applied his brakes and swerved into a two-way turn lane between the east and west lanes of River Road but was unable to avoid hitting Greer, Sloat said.

Greer was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries, Sloat said. The motorcyclist suffered minor to moderate injuries and also was taken to Memorial Hospital.
