1 Dead When Car Drives Off Road In Sonoma County

The crash happened on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near San Antonio Creek.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- One person died when the vehicle they were in went off the end of a road under construction in unincorporated Sonoma County this morning, a CHP spokesman said. The crash was reported at 11:45 a.m. on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near San Antonio Creek where the construction is happening.

Part of the construction involves building a bridge over the creek.

CHP spokesman Officer Patrick Roth said the driver was driving on a closed part of the highway when the vehicle went off the pavement and got caught in some rebar.

Roth said the passenger in the right front seat of the vehicle died while the driver and another passenger suffered moderate injuries.
