1 Killed When Pickup Truck, Bus Collide On River Road

GUERNEVILLE, CA — A driver was killed in a collision with a bus Thursday on River Road in the Guerneville area.

The fatal incident between a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck and a Sonoma County Transit bus was reported shortly before noon Thursday on River Road west of Odd Fellows Park Road.

Emergency personnel responded and confirmed a man died at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol's preliminary investigation indicated the Tacoma driver was traveling eastbound on River Road and the bus was traveling westbound when for unknown reasons at this time, the Tacoma crossed into the opposite lane directly in front of the oncoming bus.

"The front of the bus collided into the right side of the Toyota," CHP Officer David deRutte said. "The forward momentum of the large bus pushed the Toyota several feet westbound. The Toyota subsequently rolled and the male driver was ejected. The Toyota driver sustained fatal injuries."

The driver's name was being withheld Thursday until his family members were properly notified.

The driver of the bus, a 26-year-old Sebastopol man, suffered minor injuries and was treated at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Five passengers were on the bus but none reported any injuries, deRutte said.
