Detectives believe Bernal broke into the victim's home north of Piner Road and stabbed the man while he was asleep in bed.
"Bernal stabbed the victim at least one time," Mahurin said. "Bernal then fled the scene."

The victim and Bernal know each other but to maintain the integrity of the investigation, detectives have not released in what capacity they know each other, the sergeant said.
"Bernal is currently wanted by detectives and there is an outstanding Attempt Homicide warrant for his arrest," Mahurin said. "If you see Bernal, please call SRPD. Bernal should be considered armed and dangerous, so please don’t contact him."
Additionally, detectives would like to talk with anyone who may have witnessed the stabbing. Police asked anyone with information to submit it through the police department's online tip form.
A reward of up to $2,500 is offered by the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Rewards Fund for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects in the stabbing.
Once Bernal is in custody, police may release more information about the stabbing but not about the victim or his identity.
