Armed Robbery Reported At Windsor Business; Nearby Schools Briefly Locked Down

SONOMA COUNTY, CA -- UPDATED: An armed robbery was reported Wednesday at a Windsor business, and Sonoma County sheriff's officials are on the lookout for the suspect. The sheriff's office sent an alert at 12:21 p.m., stating that the robbery has just been reported at Tropical Tan on Brooks Road South, which is off Lakewood Drive near Old Redwood Highway and Highway 101.
Nearby Windsor Middle School and Windsor Creek Elementary were briefly placed on lockdown as deputies searched the area for the robbery suspect. At 1:24 p.m., officials said the lockdowns had been lifted.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s who was wearing sunglasses, a green shirt, jean shorts and was carrying a backpack. He was armed with a handgun and left the scene on foot, officials said, correcting their initial broadcast that he was possibly driving a black Chevy pickup truck with a crew cab.
