Battle of the Bands

Presented by the Healdsburg High School Progressive Club.

On Feb.10 at 5 p.m., the Progressive club presented the Battle of the Bands.

This was a fundraiser to fund their annual Earth Day Festival in the Plaza.

“We want to take our festival to the community again this year to raise awareness,” said Rebel Fagin of the Progressive Club. “We had six acts this year, two rock bands, a solo guitarist, A ukulele band, a rapper and an electronic musician.

"This has been one of the best fundraisers that we have done to date," he said.

This show was presented in “The Black Box” at the high school. It is set up for the drama club and all of the other arts to use.

First up was Morgan Ammerman. Morgan is a singer and plays guitar. She has a wonderful voice with a singer songwriter approach to her music. She really got the packed house in the mood and she should be very proud of her perfect performance.

Next, The Transparent Elephants: Christian Guerrero, Gray Garvin, Noah Foley-Beining and Miles Foley-Being were stellar with their rock band. These guys were focused and ready to rock.

Then, The Ukelele Orchestra, featuring Hannah Wykoff and Skylar Palacios. They produced an excellent set and the room was silent with their captivating style.

“I am going to let Skylar sing tonight because I just had four wisdom teeth pulled this morning,” Hannah said when she came out. That did not last long--she was singing by the second song. Check out the video.

Next up were rappers Eli Gentry and Stewart White. Their set again had the audience on their feet. Skylar came back out to sit in with her ukulele.

The Tropes were up next with Will and Hank Smith on vocals and guitar, Haydon Smith on Bass and Will Inmann on drums. This group appears to have been one of the crowds favorites and had a really polished act.

The Devin Menzies experience finished the night with some great techno rock.

There were ballots to vote for your favorite band and there was a winner chosen. Because of the wide range of ages that were on the stage and the obvious hours of practicing by each and every one of the performers,  it's really hard to choose one act over the other.

The clear winner of the night is all of us in Healdsburg. We have awesome schools with great teachers and we have all of our art programs still in place. We have well over 20 active sports teams --and it all because of our community.

If you would like to be on the winners list, please contribute to The or the Healdsburg Boosters. You can make a general donation or direct it to exactly where you want it to go. Yea Healdsburg!
