City Of Healdsburg Names New Assistant City Manager

The assistant city manager position has been vacant for over two years as the city reduced costs during the uncertainty of the pandemic.

HEALDSBURG, CA — City Manager Jeff Kay announced today that he has appointed Andrew Sturmfels to serve as the Assistant City Manager for the City of Healdsburg.

Sturmfels currently serves as the City’s Administrative Services Director.

In his new position, Sturmfels will play a lead role in overseeing the operations of City departments and coordinating with outside agencies and organizations. The position will also involve direct oversight of several high-profile, multi-departmental projects that have been identified as strategic goals by the City Council.

City Manager Jeff Kay stated, “Since joining the organization in 2021, Andrew has quickly become a valued member of our team. His broad experience, work ethic, and commitment to serving our community make him a great match for this position and we are lucky to have him.”

The Assistant City Manager position has been vacant for over two years as the City reduced costs during the uncertainty of the pandemic.

Prior to joining the City as the Administrative Services Director in 2021, Sturmfels served as Deputy Director for Administrative Services for the California Department of General Services, Deputy Director for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs for the California Governor’s Offices of Business and Economic Development, and as Planning and Performance Manager for the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.

During his time in state government, he implemented new programs to streamline government services, developed and implemented new policies to support the state’s economy, and supported the state’s emergency preparedness and disaster response efforts.

Prior to entering public service, Sturmfels served in multiple leadership positions in the hospitality industry for Marriott International and Larkspur Hotels and Restaurants. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Roanoke College in Virginia and a Master’s in Public Policy and Administration from California State University, Sacramento. He currently teaches for the Sonoma State University Master’s in Public Administration Program. Andrew lives in Healdsburg with his wife, three children, and two dogs.
