Appellation – opening their first hotel, Appellation Healdsburg next year – just published their summer and fall 2023 calendar of Crafted at Appellation classes for Sonoma County locals and visitors to experience.

Co-founded by Healdsburg-based Chef Charlie Palmer and Christopher Hunsberger, former president of the Americas at Four Seasons, Appellation is the first hotel brand born from the elegant merger of culinary and hospitality. Knowing products of a place and the people who make them do more to define a region than any map or guide, the hotels support and showcase local makers, artisans and materials via the immersive learning program: Crafted at Appellation.

As a sneak preview to the Crafted at Appellation experience well before their first hotel opening, Appellation is hosting 10 events over the next four months. Each class includes bites from co-founder Charlie Palmer and wine from a local winery – highlighting The Setting Wines, Rodney Strong Vineyards, Bricoleur Vineyards.

The 2023 Crafted at Appellation calendar includes the following happenings:

  • Block Printing (July 22 & 23, 2023): Discover the art of block and relief printing and make your own one-of-a-kind canvas tote. Use this relief printing technique to carve designs into rubber blocks and transfer them onto paper and fabric, creating incredible pieces of art with an endless array of designs.
  • Punch Needle (August 5 & 6, 2023): Discover the basics, history and beginner techniques for punch needle, also known as rug hooking, used to create beautifully textured pillows, coasters, rugs, and more. Participants will go home with their own 6-inch handmade wall hanging, punch needle, and all the knowledge for your future punch needle crafts.
  • Sashiko Making (September 16 & 17, 2023): Jazz up an old jacket or pair of jeans with Sashiko mending – a traditional Japanese method using small stitches to form a geometric, contrasting pattern. Get hands-on in class mending your very own piece, and go home with our Sashiko starter set ready for your next project.
  • Moss Wall Art (October 21 & 22, 2023): Learn how to incorporate Moss Wall Art into your everyday spaces, with an interactive course about installation, methods and creative inspiration for these stunning natural displays.
  • Holiday Wreath Making (November 29 & 30): For locally inspired holiday spirit, craft your own beautiful wreath chock full of fragrant Sonoma County evergreens! After accessorizing, learn how to hang and care for the wreath at home, ensuring it lasts through the holidays.

During these classes, Appellation will continue fostering deep connections with the Sonoma County community, while expanding their network of local makers to highlight in future programming. Once Appellation Healdsburg opens, the hotel will offer 50+ classes a year for guests and community members to enjoy

The Crafted at Appellation program nicely complements Appellation’s vision to incorporate the culinary experience into their hotels’ DNA, where every detail – design, amenities and programming – is inspired by food and beverage to ignite the senses.
