Emergency Siren Testing Planned Near Healdsburg: Fire Department
LRAD testing will take place outside Healdsburg city limits but may be heard by some residents depending on where they live.
HEALDSBURG, CA — The Healdsburg Fire Department is hosting the testing Tuesday and Wednesday of the LRAD emergency siren system. Fire officials said testing of the Long-Range Acoustic Device siren is taking place in areas of unincorporated Sonoma County outside Healdsburg city limits but still may be heard by Healdsburg residents depending on where they live.
That's because an LRAD siren system is said to "clearly broadcast real-time live or recorded voice messages from close range out to 3,000 meters [1.86 miles]."
The testing is being done in coordination with COPE — Citizens Organized to Prepare for Emergencies — leadership in northern Sonoma County.
