Fairfield Assault Suspect Hit Woman In Head With Hammer During Vallejo Robbery: Police

The 19-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with both incidents.

A man has been arrested in connection with hitting a woman in the head with a hammer during a Tuesday robbery in Vallejo. William David King, 19, of Vallejo, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder and robbery.

Officers with the Vallejo Police Department responded Tuesday at 11:10 a.m. to a robbery that had just occurred at the Wells Fargo Bank at 1702 Tennessee St. Witnesses told police they saw the victim walking to her vehicle when the suspect approached and hit the 37-year-old woman in the head several times with a hammer.

The victim dropped the money she was holding, and the suspect took the money from the ground and fled the area in his vehicle. The victim suffered major injuries in the attack, police said.

On Wednesday, police located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of Fairmont Avenue.

The suspect, identified as King, was detained and confessed to the crime, police said. Police said evidence was also seized during the investigation.

As King was being processed, Fairfield police notified Vallejo police of a similar crime that occurred in Fairfield earlier Wednesday. King was subsequently arrested by the Fairfield Police Department on additional counts of suspicion of attempted murder and robbery, police said.
