Redwood, Potter Fires In Mendocino Co.: 21K Acres Destroyed

One fatality, plus two injuries, reported in the "Redwood Complex" fires.

MENDOCINO COUNTY, CA – The Redwood and Potter fires, collectively dubbed the "Redwood Complex" fires, consumed 21,000 acres by Tuesday morning, according to Cal Fire.

No containment percentages were listed by the agency.

One death and two "serious injuries" were reported Monday in the Mendocino County blazes, which broke out Sunday night in the Mendocino National Forest regions, north of Highway 20, west of the forest and south of Black Bart, Cal Fire said.

Evacuations were ordered for the Potter Valley, the Community of Redwood Valley and Golden Rule, with evacuation centers opened at Ukiah High School and Willits City Hall. The large animal evacuation center was listed by Cal Fire as at Ukiah Fair Grounds.

Cell phones and landlines are not operating in the area, the agency said.

Fire personnel at the scene Tuesday totaled 410 with 26 engines and one helicopter. High winds were hindering firefighting efforts. according to Cal Fire.
