Dominic Foppoli Files Paperwork For Windsor Mayoral Election
The former Windsor mayor who resigned amid sexual assault allegations filed a candidate intention statement.
WINDSOR, CA — Former Windsor Mayor Dominic Foppoli, who resigned from the role in May amid investigations into allegations that he sexually assaulted as many as nine women, filed paperwork for a possible run for mayor in the November 2022 election.
The Town of Windsor confirmed it received a candidate intention statement Tuesday from Foppoli.
"Filing this statement is not a formal commitment to run for elected office," Windsor Town Clerk Irene Camacho-Werby said in a news release. "It is a preliminary step that allows a candidate to establish a campaign committee and start accepting campaign contributions."

The filing period for formal nomination papers to run for office in the November 2022 election does not start until mid-July 2022, Camacho-Werby said.
As for whether Foppoli, 39, intends to again seek election as mayor, he told KCBS radio station he has "made no decision to run at this point." The paperwork is "a technicality” and a "legal requirement" to ensure that previously received donations for campaign funds were used appropriately, he told KCBS.

On Wednesday, Foppoli still identified himself as "Mayor of Windsor" on his website.
The at-large, elected mayor seat is one of four Windsor Town Council seats that will be open for election in November 2022, the town clerk said. The other open seats include Districts 1, 2 and 4. The District 3 seat was filled in November 2020 and will not be open for election until 2024, Werby said.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday that despite active investigations into the sexual assault allegations, potential misconduct in office and potential violations of campaign laws, Windsor Vice Mayor Rosa Reynoza said she thinks it's very possible Foppoli will choose to seek the mayor's seat again.
“When you have funds leftover in your campaign, your options are to donate it and close your committee, or if you think you are going to run again, you keep it open," the vice mayor told the newspaper.
