Healdsburg Prune Packers Monitoring Smoke Before Championship Game Tonight

HEALDSBURG, CA — The Healdsburg Prune Packers are weighing whether wildfire smoke will force a schedule change for Game 2 of the Pacific Empire League Championship Series as officials monitor air quality ahead of Friday night's first pitch.

In a statement released today, the Prune Packers said they are working with the City of Healdsburg, public safety agencies, and air quality officials to determine whether conditions remain safe for players, coaches, volunteers, and fans.

In the meantime, Game 2 remains scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at Recreation Park.

But if smoke conditions worsen, and officials postpone the game, the championship matchup would move to 6 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 1) at Recreation Park.

If the best-of-three series requires a deciding game, it would be played Sunday (Aug. 2) at Recreation Park.

The team said fans who purchased tickets for Friday's game would be able to use those same tickets if the game is rescheduled for Saturday.

The announcement comes as wildfire smoke from the Woodside fire continues to affect air quality across parts of Northern California.

Smoke from the Woodside Fire prompted officials to warn North Bay residents to limit outdoor exposure today.

The Bay Area Air District extended a Spare the Air Alert through Saturday due to smoke from the fire. Air quality is forecast to be unhealthy, according to an alert from the agency.

The Prune Packers said they will continue monitoring conditions and will announce any schedule changes through their official communication channels.
