Man Possibly On Meth Attacks Sonoma Co. Deputies

A man who was allegedly under the influence of drugs and fought Sonoma County sheriff’s deputies was arrested on battery on a peace officer and drug charges Thursday, a sheriff’s sergeant said. A woman called the sheriff’s office at 7:45 a.m. to report her friend was high on methamphetamine and was violently throwing a trash can on Eddy Drive in southwest Santa Rosa, Sgt. Cecile Focha said.

The man, identified as Florentino Hernandez Valdovinos, 32, of Santa Rosa, began walking in the middle of the road and shouting he wanted to kill himself, Focha said.

Deputies arrived, requested back-up officers and chased after Valdovinos when he started running in traffic, Focha said. A deputy shot Valdovinos with a stun gun but it had no effect and Valdovinos kept fighting until he was restrained and handcuffed, Focha said.

Valdovinos was taken to a hospital for evaluation before he was booked into the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of battery on a peace officer, being under the influence of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Sonoma County Superior Court Monday afternoon.

One of the deputies suffered minor injuries in the scuffle with Valdovinos, Focha said.
