Man Sentenced For 'Life-Altering' Assaults On 3 Sonoma Co. Women

SONOMA COUNTY, CA – A 31-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison this morning for assaulting three women with intent to commit a sex crime in Santa Rosa last year.

Jason Frederick Hulac, a Santa Rosa resident, pleaded no contest to the felony charges in September after he was determined to be mentally competent to stand trial on the charges.

Hulac's attorney John Stringer told Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Jamie Thistlethwaite his client was not taking medication for his manic-depression illness when he committed the crimes against three women who were walking or hiking outdoors in Santa Rosa between February and June 2015.

Stringer said Hulac understands the gravity of the crimes and their consequences and is very sorry for the offenses.

"He can only offer an apology," Stringer said.

Deputy District Attorney Barbara Nanney said Hulac assaulted a 35-year-old developmentally disabled woman on a west Santa Rosa street, a 32-year-old woman on a trail in the Fountaingrove area and a 22-year-old woman at Spring Lake Regional Park.

Hulac grabbed the women and threw at least one to the ground. All three women fought off Hulac, Nanney said.

Nanney said the victims are still afraid to walk alone even in daylight and still suffer from emotional and psychological damage from the "life-altering" assaults.

One of the women was assaulted during a walk on her lunch break, Nanney said. "2015 was a horrible year for three Sonoma County women as a result of his actions. None of the victims ever want to see him again," Nanney said.

Hulac was sentenced to consecutive four-, four- and two-year terms in prison for the assaults.
