Opening night at the 2014 Healdsburg Jazz Festival, pianist Marc Cary will be playing songs from his CD “For the Love of Abbey,” most of which the late jazz vocalist wrote, and which Cary played with her for 12 years.
He will play solo and in trio format, returning to Healdsburg in two performances, at 7 pm and 9 pm.
There is indeed much love in these songs and not only because Cary treasures his mentor. This love is about a heart open to letting things happen, and the trust that they will. There is no greater tribute that Abbey Lincoln could possibly receive, nor a more promising way to open the Healdsburg Jazz Festival.
Tickets are $25; ticket links and more information here. http://www.healdsburgjazzfestival.org/wordpress/may-30-marc-cary-solo-trio/
The venue is the upstairs "Grange" at Healdsburg Shed, whose changing menu features casual wood fired cuisine, Mediterranean mezze plates, and fresh, local ingredients. They offer a frequently changing list of wine, beer from small, sustainable producers producers as well as their own housemade kombuchas and shrubs. There wll be pre-concert dinners for ticket-holders by reservation; see this page more info. http://www.healdsburgjazzfestival.org/wordpress/pre-concert-dinner-at-healdsburg-shed/
