Sonoma County, Santa Rosa To Mark 5th Anniversary Of 2017 Fires

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The City of Santa Rosa and the County of Sonoma invite the public to attend a ceremony Saturday recognizing rebuilding efforts and honoring the community's resilience on the fifth anniversary of the devastating 2017 wildfires.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Coffey Neighborhood Park in an area of the city that burned in the North Bay fires of Oct. 8, 2017.

In all, the fires killed 43 people, damaged or destroyed about 8,200 structures and burned more than 161,000 acres in the region, the majority of which were in Sonoma County, according to the Association of Bay Area Governments.

Saturday's event will include several speakers, including Santa Rosa Mayor Chris Rogers, county Supervisors James Gore and Susan Gorin, U.S. Rep. Jared Huffman, state Sen. Mike McGuire, and Assemblymember Jim Wood.

The event starts with Santa Rosa Fire Department Honor Guard presenting flags, to be followed by a moment of silence.

Coffey Neighborhood Park is at 1524 Amanda Place in Santa Rosa.
