Sonoma Deputy Finds Dead Body North Of Healdsburg

A Sonoma County sheriff's deputy found a dead body near a homeless encampment north of Healdsburg Wednesday morning.

HEALDSBURG - A Sonoma County sheriff's deputy found a dead body near a homeless encampment north of Healdsburg Wednesday morning, a sheriff's sergeant said.

The deputy was with members of the county's Homeless Outreach Services Team that was looking for a homeless encampment in a field near the Lytton Station Road off-ramp of northbound U.S. Highway 101 in unincorporated Sonoma County around 8:20 a.m., Sgt. Cecile Focha said.

The decomposed body was found along a dirt road 5-10 feet down an embankment and it is not clear that the person was associated with the encampment, Focha said.

Detectives cordoned off the area as a possible crime scene and questioned two people.

Investigators do not know if the deceased person was a victim of foul play or trauma, Focha said.

An autopsy will be conducted Wednesday or Thursday, she said.
