Victim Shot, Left On A Dirt Road At Sunrise Identified
Police arrested a teen suspect in a Covelo killing who is suspected of assaulting a teen relative of the victim.
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — The 38-year-old woman who was fatally shot early Sunday and left on a dirt road has been identified as Audrey Card.
Card was shot about 6:15 a.m. Sunday on a dirt road near the 23000 block of Charlie Hurt Highway in Mendocino County.
A 16-year-old accused of shooting Card just before sunrise is also suspected of assaulting one of her relatives, a 15-year-old girl, earlier the same day, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said.

The girl was able to drive away and reported the incident to family members. Later in the morning the girl was on the phone with Card when the teen heard several gunshots in the background.
Card was rushed to the Covelo Volunteer Fire Department on Highway 162 but found no emergency medical personnel there. She was then taken to a nearby home on South Airport Road to seek help, according to reports.
Mendocino County sheriff’s deputies and Round Valley Tribal police officers performed CPR on the unconscious woman until emergency responders arrived. A paramedic pronounced her dead at 6:55 a.m., authorities said.
Following a tip, deputies coordinated with law enforcement agencies in Butte County and Oroville on Sunday night in a search for the 16-year-old suspect.
Authorities located the teen Tuesday at a restaurant in Oroville. He fled during an attempted arrest but was captured after a foot pursuit.
The teen was extradited from Butte County Juvenile Hall by Mendocino County sheriff’s deputies and booked into Mendocino County Juvenile Hall, officials said Thursday.
