We wake up on weekend mornings and contemplate all the things we could and should accomplish with our free time. As everyone knows, keeping up with the Joneses is a full time occupation….but seriously, when was the last time you squandered away a perfectly good afternoon?
As Lin Yutang professed, “If you can spend a perfectly useless afternoon in a perfectly useless manner, you have learned how to live.” I think he’s onto something.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula offers a vast array of recreational trails for hikers, bikers and horseback riders but there are other routes for those not disposed toward industrious pursuits.
Seascape Trail in Rancho Palos Verdes provides exactly what you need without any pesky exertion. The wide, wheelchair-friendly, 1.5 mile trail meanders along the scenic coastal bluffs with views of Catalina Island and the endless Pacific.
Just off Palos Verdes Drive West, Calle Entradero provides access to the trail and plenty of street parking. Heading south, the undemanding trail ends at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center and the iconic Point Vicente Lighthouse.
Fortunately, the lighthouse is only open for tours on the second Saturday of each month – avoid that day and you won’t be tempted to indulge in constructive activities. At most, pack a lunch and dine al fresco at one of the tables in the picnic area or sit in the outdoor amphitheater at the Interpretive Center and contemplate the deep blue.
It’s a radical thought: a stroll strictly for pleasure? Trust me, it’s good for the soul.
