Barricaded Suspect Found Unarmed In Hermosa Beach Apartment
Firefighters initially responded to reports of smoke. When they arrived, they were unable to enter the complex due to the police standoff.
HERMOSA BEACH, CA – Police responded to a Hermosa Beach apartment complex Monday, believing an armed suspect was barricaded in the bathroom – but after a nearly two-hour standoff, the person inside was determined to be unarmed. Los Angeles County firefighters initially responded around 4 a.m. to reports of a smoking apartment unit in the Playa Pacifica complex at 415 Herondo Street in Hermosa Beach. However, when they arrived they were unable to enter the complex because Hermosa Beach police were inside dealing with what was believed to be a possibly armed and barricaded suspect.
Some residents of the complex were evacuated as police swarmed the complex.
Around 5:45 p.m., police cleared the apartment. According to reports from the scene, the person inside the unit was not armed but was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The person may have been under the influence of drugs and started the small fire that initially brought fire crews to the building, CBS2 reported.
