HERMOSA BEACH, CA – It was a busy week in Hermosa Beach and throughout the South Bay. The Hermosa Beach City School District earned a California Green Ribbon Schools Award for their conservation of resources and promotion of health and environmental literacy. Read more here.

If you're looking for some gently-used furniture, clothing or home goods, check out the Hermosa Beach Community Garage Sale this weekend. A total of 57 households signed up to participate in the event, and the City compiled a map of houses to make it easy to plan your shopping route. Read more here.

Elsewhere in the South Bay, Uber drivers striked over a 25 percent cut in wages. The group, which met in Redondo Beach, demanded a guaranteed $28-per-hour minimum rate and a reverse of the pay cut. Read more here.

A young South Bay boy with cancer is looking for a bone marrow donor match in order to get a life-saving transplant. However, he's having trouble finding a match. Read more here.

South Bay police agencies recently teamed up to carry out three traffic enforcement operations within Redondo Beach, and officers wrote 100 driving citations during that period. The traffic enforcement operations were in an effort to reduce traffic violations and change drivers' behavior, police said. Read more here.

Earlier this week, a tragic accident occurred when a pick-up truck driver moved to avoid hitting an animal in the street, and hit a young boy instead. The boy, 10, was pronounced dead at the scene by Torrance Fire Department personnel. Read more here.

Palos Verdes Estates and Manhattan Beach are looking to fill committee, board and commissions vacancies in their respective towns. For all the garden enthusiasts, Athens Services is hosting a free compost giveaway in Redondo Beach on Saturday, April 13. Redondo residents may receive up to 30 gallons of compost per person while supplies last, but there are some restrictions. Read more here.

In Wilmington, a biker was killed in a crash on Pacific Coast Highway Friday. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Read more here.
