Health Officials Warn of Beach Bacteria from Storm Runoff

The recent storm means elevated bacteria and debris in the ocean waters near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers.

Because of runoff from recent rains, beachgoers were advised today to be careful when swimming in the ocean waters near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers.

Bacteria, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas are likely to enter ocean waters through these outlets, the County Department of Health reported.

The rain advisory will remain in effect until at least 7 a.m. Saturday, and may be extended if there is more rainfall, authorities said.
