HERMOSA BEACH, CA — The 2019 Hermosa Beach election is Tuesday, November 5. Residents will vote on two City Councilmembers, two measures, the Treasurer position and City Clerk.

Three candidates are vying for two City Council seats, which come with a 5-year term. Incumbent Justin Massey is running for his second term on the council, against Riverside firefighter Mike Detoy and activist Trent Larson, who's running for a City Council set for the fourth time.

Voters will also go to the polls to vote on Measure H, which raises the city’s Transient Occupancy Tax up 2 percent. The Transient Occupancy Tax would charge 14 percent, but only to guests of hotels, motels and short-term lodgers who stay for a period of 30 days or less, City Attorney Mike Jenkins told the Daily Breeze.

Measure CC is also on the ballot, which, if approved, makes the city clerk a position appointed by the city manager instead of one to elect. Elaine Doerfling, the current city clerk, is retiring, and there are no candidates running for the position.

City treasurer Karen Nowicki is running for re-election unopposed.
