Interview with Mrs. Escalante
By: Natalie Rebenkoff
On January 22, 2014 Mrs. Duclos’ third period Journalism class interviewed Mrs. Escalante, the Hermosa Valley school superintendent. As a superintendent Mrs. Escalante has many responsibilities. The superintendent is responsible for the fantastic teachers, how much money the school has, Hermosa Valley school equipment and materials, and communicating with the community. There are some skills that should be required to be the school superintendent though; its not all easy. “You have to know how to work with others”, Mrs. Escalante says, You should try and put yourself in someone else's position and see how they feel.

As well as many responsibilities there are some pros and cons of being the school’s superintendent. Some positive points of the job is that she is one of the only school superintendents that has an office on campus. She loves that because seeing the kids reminds her why she has the job. Some negative points of the job are that there are some challenges with money but the great parents help out by donating. Mrs. Escalante recommends this job to others but she says, “You should have some experience to do it.”
Mrs. Escalante went to USC to get her degree and also went to University of Laverne to get her masters degree. Mrs. Escalante also likes to travel when she is not working. She has been to places such as Europe, Paris, Mexico, Canada, and the United States but she would like to travel more. Mrs. Escalante is not only the school superintendent she is also a Mom and a Grandmother. She likes to spend time with her two year old grandson and her 88 year old mother. As a Mom, Mrs. Escalante has two kids, Matthew and Michael. Mrs. Escalante has a lot of family including her best friend since college. She says, “We are like sisters.”Mrs. Escalante is a great superintendent, mother, and grandmother. I hope she stays as Hermosa Valley School’s superintendent as long as she can.
