Jackie's South Bay Weekend Guide for January 22, 2015

So….what are you doing this weekend?

I hope all of you have enjoyed getting back to the day-to-day routine after the holidays. For me, it’s been anything but, since I’m preparing to compete in Dancing with the South Bay Stars IV. I’ve been working my tail off between dance practice, shopping for a costume (not as fun as it sounds) and getting the word out about the event. If you haven’t yet heard, twelve South Bay locals will be putting it out there – and I mean, PUTTING IT OUT THERE – to raise funds for charity and we need your support. Please consider voting for us online and/or attending the show. You know it’s going to be a fun, fun night….all the details are below.

The Redondo Beach Police Department Battle of the Badges Blood Drive takes place today, January 22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Bloodmobile will be parked in the RBPD station lot, located at 401 Diamond Street in South Redondo Beach. Participants will receive a Battle of the Badges T-shirt, two VIP tickets to the Laugh Factory, one free Clippers ticket with the purchase of a $20 ticket and a discounted ticket offer for either an Anaheim Ducks game at the Honda Center or a Los Angeles Kings game at the Staples Center according to a news release from RBPD. For additional information, visit the website at http://nixle.com/redondo-beach-police-department/.

Find below sea level prices this weekend in Downtown Manhattan Beach! The business owners in the Downtown area will be hosting the Sidewalk Sale & Blowout Clearance beginning Friday, January 22 and running through Sunday, January 25. Businesses will be offering drastic price reductions on quality merchandise ranging from clothing to home furnishings and everything in between. Note: Some retailers will offer a ‘Pre-sale’ day Thursday for regulars. Regular store and restaurant hours will be in effect. Lou’s on the Hill celebrates their Grand Opening tonight, Thursday, January 22. Lou Giovannetti – the Beach Cities’ bel canto – soft-opened his namesake restaurant a little over a month ago for dinner service. They are now accepting reservations for the big Grand Opening celebration for dinner and Vinoteca service at the bar after 8 p.m. (There’s a private party until then.)The evening features Naughty Niki & the All Nighters at 9 p.m. While Niki heats up the Hill with cheeky songs from the 20′s, guests can enjoy a specialty Dirty Martini. All proceeds from the purchase of the culinary cocktail that night will be donated to the Torrance Memorial Capital Fund. The night wouldn’t be complete without Lou taking the stage and belting out a few songs from the Great American Songbook. You don’t want to miss this party! For additional information and to make reservations, call 310-378-4288 or visit the website at http://lousonthehill.com/. Lou’s on the Hill is located at Hillside Village at 24590 Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance.

Join the vintage treasure hunt on Sunday, January 25 at the Torrance Antique Street Faire from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in historic downtown Torrance. Over 200 sellers will be set up along the tree lined streets with antiques, collectibles, vintage clothes, furniture, jewelry, toys, tools, home decor and more…all on sale at bargain prices. The monthly event features live entertainment with DJ Ozzie in the park, Stacy Robin & Friends in the Plaza and live music in front of the coffee shop and Just Luigis. Dave Brownlee and the Torrance Roadshow Appraisals will be on hand to value your treasures. If you’re thinking of adding a new member to your family, Romp Rescue Pet Adoption will be set up in the park. As always, admission and parking are FREE. The Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation presents Dancing with the South Bay Stars IV on Saturday, February 7. I was invited to participate this year along with eleven other residents of the South Bay. It’s sure to be a wild competition and we’ll all have a great time, but the best part is, it’s all for charity! You can support our efforts by purchasing tickets to the event and/or voting on-line for the charity/dancer of your choice. Each vote is $1 and you can vote as many times as you like. If you want to donate $10, that’s 10 votes. The votes only make up half the score, so it’s important for each dancer to rack up those votes. The other half of the score will be based on the dancers’ performance by three professional judges. Since this is my Weekend Guide, I’m shamelessly asking for your support. I’ll be dancing for the Manhattan Beach CERT Association. They provide a vitally important service for the South Bay community and I’m thrilled to represent them. You can cast your votes NOW at http://www.torrancearts.org/dancing-with-the-south-bay-stars-iv/. I hope to see you at the show!
