John Jalili Returns As Hermosa Beach Interim City Manager

The retired Santa Monica city manager has twice before served as interim city manager for Hermosa Beach.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA – The Hermosa Beach City Council on Monday unanimously chose retired Santa Monica City Manager John Jalili to serve as interim city manager until the city can find a replacement for its outgoing top executive. The Council reached the decision in closed session on Monday.

Jalili has twice before served as interim city manager for Hermosa Beach, the City of Hermosa Beach press release said.

“I have had the great privilege of working with John,” Mayor Jeff Duclos said in a statement. “He brings to this transitional position a depth of experience as a top manager that is hard to match, as well as detailed working knowledge of our city and the respect of all staff members. I can’t think of a better fit for our city in continuing the important work we have begun.”

The council appointed Mayor Duclos and Mayor Pro Tem Stacey Armato to a subcommittee to support an executive search team and Jalili in the recruitment of a permanent replacement to City Manager Sergio Gonzalez, who submitted his resignation to accept an offer for a city manager’s position in Azusa in order to be closer to his family’s San Gabriel Valley home.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to help the city again,” Jalili said in a statement. “Hermosa Beach is a great community, and I enjoy working with the City Council and staff.”
