Plane 'Crash' Near Pier Turns Out to Be Ill-Advised Coffee Break
Emergency crews responded to a report of a plane crash only to discover the pilot of a seaplane stopped for coffee in Hermosa Beach.
Two people triggered an emergency response to what was thought to be a plane crash in the water near the Hermosa Beach Pier when they landed their seaplane to stop for a cup of Joe.
Now, after police, fire and lifeguard crews mounted an emergency response, an investigation is under way to identify the pilot and any possible violations he or she may have committed by landing in the South Bay.

According to a statement by the Hermosa Beach Police Department, at 9:31 a.m. “The plane turned out to be a sea plane that landed, both occupants got out to have coffee, and then took off on its own. This caused a multiple response by the lifeguards, police, and fire. An investigation is underway as to the identity of the pilot and any violations.”
