Redondo Man Charged with Murdering Girlfriend

A Redondo Beach man was charged with murdering his murdering his girlfriend, the mother of his 8-month-old baby.

A 22-year-old Redondo Beach man was charged today with murdering his girlfriend, with whom he had an 8-month-old child.

Roy Rodriguez Jr. was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in a Torrance courtroom in connection with the death of 20-year-old Paige Chiarello, who was shot about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 2500 block of Graham Avenue in Redondo Beach.

Rodriguez was arrested after a half-hour standoff with authorities, and was initially booked on suspicion of attempted murder, said police Lt. Joe Hoffman.

After Chiarello died at a hospital about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Rodriguez was re-booked on suspicion of murder.

The murder count includes an allegation that Rodriguez personally and intentionally discharged a handgun. He is also charged with one felony count of dissuading a witness by force or threat and two felony counts of criminal threats against a separate victim.
