The annual National Night Out takes place this year on Tuesday, August 6. This unique crime and drug prevention event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch. The National Night Out campaign involves citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. This annual event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness by generating support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthening neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and sending a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Residents are encouraged to organize block parties and other social events. National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program. The benefits your community will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night. Last year, nearly 38 million people participated in National Night Out and 2018 is expected to be the largest event ever. To register, visit the website athttp://natw.org/about/.
