There’s something about settling into a beach chair and listening to music while the sun goes down, that makes you feel all is right in the world. (For a couple of hours, at least.) During the summer in the South Bay, there are just so many fantastic, free concert series to attend. Summer and music go hand-in-hand….. toss in a few friends, amazing weather, sips and bites, and poof! You’ve got an epic evening. I’m in a music state of mind this week and plan to squeeze in as many concerts as I can before the season ends…. and I hope to see some of you out there getting your groove on!
The Redondo Beach Main Branch Library is offering Life Planning Classes: A Five-Part Series Empowering Older Adults & Their Families during August and September. A free five-part series in partnership with H.E.L.P. focusing on elder care is offered at the Redondo Beach Main Library. Classes are free and open to everyone. No reservations are required. All classes are on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to Noon. The topics and dates are as follows:
August 16 – Staying In Charge of Your Healthcare and Finances
August 23 – Trusts & Probate
August 30 – Elder Care and Residential Choices

The Torrance Rose Float Association invites the community to the monthlyRestaurant for Roses event today, Thursday, August 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Chicago for Ribs. We all saw the fabulous Torrance Float in this year’s Parade of Roses. Well, they raise funds all year long to make the float happen every year. Here’s your chance to contribute! Chicago for Ribs will donate 20% of all sales revenue generated by this event back to the cause. Print out and give the accompanying flyer to your server to assure the funds are accounted for. SoCal Yoga Social offers Get Yoga & Get Social tonight, Thursday, August 23 and every Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Woman’s Club of Redondo Beach. Expensive pants and perfect poses are not what this is about… Yoga has been priced out of many people’s reach and so many segments of society are being excluded. SoCal Yoga Social created a 501(c)(3) to ensure that everyone can join and be a part of the interconnectedness that yoga is meant to bring. Classes are free but donations are appreciated! This is one of the most fun events of the summer, lots of great music and dancing… The Richstone Family Center hosts the annual Endless Summer Beach Party on Saturday, August 25 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on a stretch of beach in Redondo. Enjoy an evening filled with flavorsome dishes from local restaurants, live music and dancing. Guest will stay cool with refreshing cocktails, beer and wine. The evening will also feature entertainment from the talented 12-member band, Night Owl Productions, covering all the beachy classics. All proceeds of ticket sales will continue to fund free mentoring programs against domestic violence for children who escaped abused homes. American Honda Motor Company and the Torrance Chamber hostEvening under the Stars: Annual Gourmet Food & Wine Festival onSaturday, August 25. The gala event takes place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Honda Headquarters in Torrance. The evening features Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Kenny G, scrumptious bites from the finest South Bay restaurants and more than 80 varietals of wine. Professional sommeliers will be on hand to educate guests about wine. As part of the event’s festivities, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a live and silent auction for exclusive items and experiences, including entertainment packages, sporting events and memorabilia, dining, travel, local outings and specialty items. Tickets are $200 per person or two for $300 (until July 31). Dress code: cocktail attire. No one under 21 years of age will be admitted. The City of Torrance Community Services Department and local Homeowners Associations are proud to sponsor the last of the Movies in the Park on Saturday, August 25 with a screening of Moana at Wilson Park. These movie nights will take place at various parks throughout the city this summer. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Absolution Brewing hosts Yogis for Charity on Sunday, August 26 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Come out and support Alex’s Lemonade Stand with yoga, beer, food and a special release yoga glass.
