And just like that - POOF! - another year come and gone. I hope 2018 treated you well, and if that’s not the case, good riddance! We have a brand-new year to look forward to and a chance to hit the reset button. I’ve set a few BIG goals for myself and am looking forward to the challenges 2019 will bring…..right after I exchange a few gifts (love them all, just a few sizing issues). Onto the important stuff….. There are no official events scheduled over the next few days because it’s all about the big New Year’s Eve celebrations on Monday night. While every bar and restaurant will be engaging in all sorts of revelries, we’ve listed the biggest parties below. The Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau hosts the annual New Year’s Eve Celebration at Pier Plaza on Monday, December 31 beginning at 8 p.m. The festivities feature two countdowns to the New Year. The first countdown takes place at 9 p.m. with the ball drop from Times Square in New York City being shown live on a 9 x 12 video screen. The second countdown at midnight features our very own ball drop – an 8-foot beach ball – as Hermosa Beach rings in the new year with the West Coast. Lou Giovannetti and His “BIG” Big Band will be the featured performers. Inspired by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and their swing contemporaries, Lou and his musicians perform iconic standards of the American big-band era. Along with special guests, they appear on the main stage at Pier Plaza from 8 p.m. until midnight. Admission is FREE to this family-friendly event and it is open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to come early to enjoy the evening specials offered by retailers and the many restaurants and bars in Hermosa Beach. Parking is limited. The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce (MBCC) has announced that Kelly Stroman has been hired as President/CEO of the organization. “Kelly is a respected leader in our community, having led The Downtown Manhattan Beach Business & Professional Association and the weekly Manhattan Beach Certified Farmers’ Market for over five years, and has also served on the MBCC Board of Directors. Kelly is a Manhattan Beach Rotarian and also serves on the City’s Homeless Action Committee as well as the Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee and the Hospitality Committee. We are excited that she has joined the Chamber in this capacity.” said Brad Sperber, Board Chair. “(Her) business acumen, devotion to the South Bay and support from Chamber members, staff, city leaders and community made this decision easy. There is no doubt that Kelly will do great things in the months ahead for local businesses and our community. Kelly Stroman will begin working full-time at MBCC, beginning on January 7, 2019.
