South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide January 25, 2018

The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

This is one of the more interesting events I’ve heard about in a while – the Hermosa Beach Community Wide Garage Sale. Interesting because the city came up with the concept to encourage residents to clean out their garages, and in so doing, get their cars off the street. But there’s more to it than just freeing up parking, so that will be our topic tomorrow morning on The South Bay Show with guests Council Member Hany Fangary, HBPD Community Services Officer Georgia Moe and City of Hermosa Beach Environmental Analyst Leeanne Singleton. To register your garage sale, visit the website at https://www.southbaybyjackie.com/south-bay-jackie-weekend-guide-2

Palos Verdes Performing Arts presents Picasso at the Lapin Agile January 26 through February 4 at the Norris Theatre. This clever Off-Broadway hit play is from comedian and writer Steve Martin. The comedy imagines Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso meeting in a Parisian bar one evening in 1904, just before each man introduced the work that would make him famous. With rapier-sharp wit and hysterical one-liners, Martin paints a playful portrait of the two geniuses, with egos are as big as their intellects, as they spar about art and science, their respective libidos, and the promise of the 20th century. Add in a bar full of eccentrics and a mysterious visitor, and you’re in for a brilliant and witty evening of theatre. Tickets are $30/$70. This is the final weekend for Experience #31: HOPE at the El Segundo Museum of Art. HOPE explores the reciprocal influence of western and Latin American video and new media art in Cuba. No other country has been so equally torn between love and hate, desire and neglect, isolation and reception, western and eastern ideologies. Indeed, the Caribbean island nation is so full of contradiction that it is no wonder it became a hotbed for contemporary and new media art. The richness and sheer number of Cuba’s facets grew from postmodern, neo-baroque, conceptual and minimalistic roots – to name just a few western influences. Experience #31: HOPE, will run through January 28, 2018. As always, admission is FREE! Chicago Ribs is now open in Riviera Village at the former Casa Pulido location. There was a Chicago Ribs in South Redondo for decades. Originally it was on the corner of PCH and PV Boulevard (where Rock & Brews is now), then it moved to PCH on the Avenues, and is now on Avenue I. They completely renovated the building and added an outdoor patio. It looks terrific and there’s plenty of street parking. They’re open for lunch and dinner. You can eat in, take out and they’ll deliver. For additional information, visit the website at https://www.southbaybyjackie.com/south-bay-jackie-weekend-guide-2..
