South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide January 31, 2019
Everything you want to know about what is happening this weekend in the South Bay

I’m not much of a sports fan, but I’m pretty excited about this year’s Super Bowl. I imagine the entire South Bay (and the rest of So Cal) will be routing for our hometown Rams. Before the game gets underway though, several thousand locals will be participating in the Redondo Beach Super Bowl Sunday Run/Walk & Expo. It’s such a fun tradition (costumes!) and a terrific way to start the day. I indulge in a pretty quirky Super Bowl Sunday tradition…..I go to the supermarket an hour before kick-off. I don’t need to buy anything, I just enjoy watching hundreds of men roaming the aisles, tossing anything they deem appropriate for game time into their shopping carts….. beer; Cheetos; pretzels; Fireball; chips, nachos; pre-cooked meatballs, chicken wings or ribs; salsa; cheese dip; onion dip; bean dip; tequila; paper towels; Red Bull; you get the idea. But you really should witness this annual foraging event for yourself. It takes place at grocery stores all over the country – and trust me, it’s a hoot!

The South Bay Workforce Investment Board will host a Job Fair today, Thursday, January 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hawthorne Memorial Center. This event was coordinated by the SBWIB due to the SpaceX layoffs, however, it is open to all interested job seekers and those who look to enhance their career pathways. Job seekers will also benefit by meeting with EDD and SBWIB/One Stop Business & Career Centers. Network with employers, apply your valuable skills to get a new job, ease your workforce transition and learn how to access your unemployment benefits. Spiff up that resume and attend! To RSVP, contact Donald Perry at sbj@sbwib.org. Hawthorne Memorial Center is located at 3901 West El Segundo Boulevard, Hawthorne, CA 90250.
