South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide July 12, 2018

The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area

Last Friday night, my husband and I went to the Artist Reception at ShockBoxx Gallery for Kat Monk’s photography exhibit .25ALT. We had made plans with another couple to attend and go out for dinner afterward. If you remember (and how could you forget?), we were in the midst of that oppressive heatwave and it was as sultry an evening we’ve ever experienced here in the South Bay. There was a terrific turnout for the event, and with the band playing in front of the gallery and the heat factor, the crowd naturally spilled out onto the street. Many of us gravitated to the shadows of surrounding buildings to escape the sun and there was a distinct esprit de corps sentiment – the heat was dreadful but we were in it together and determined to make the best of it…. and we did. Kat’s phenomenal art photography set the tone, the industrial location provided the edge, and the locals brought the beach vibe. This was old-school Hermosa at it’s best and one of those hot, summer nights I’ll flashback on and smile.

By publicizing these educational and enforcement efforts, the Manhattan Beach Police Department believes that drinking and driving and driving while unlicensed will be reduced. The “Zero Tolerance” approach to enforcement sends a clear message to those who still don’t heed the warning to designate a sober driver before celebrations begin. Simply put, “If you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested.” The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
