South Bay By Jackie Weekend Guide July 6, 2017
The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

I hope you all had a fabulous time celebrating the birth of our nation over the last few days. You never know what to expect when a major holiday falls in the middle of the week. Many people worked on Monday, but just as many had the day off; some took advantage of the long weekend and headed out of town, while others are vacationing the whole week before and/or after. The Fourth of July is such a beachy holiday, I always expect the South Bay to be crowded….but it was a ghost town through Monday night. We went to a BBQ in Santa Monica Saturday evening and it only took us 10 minutes to get there on the freeway! We took a Strand cruise on Sunday and Monday and there were stretches where we didn’t see another soul. There was ample parking in downtown Hermosa, Manhattan and on the Esplanade. Traffic was non-existent and restaurants were empty. That all changed Monday evening, with people coming to the South Bay in droves. Tuesday was a madhouse, of course. I wonder what the rest of the week will bring….
