Community Corner

South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide June 27, 2019

Want to know what is happening this weekend and next week in the South Bay?

June Gloom has been annoyingly persistent this year (I’m wearing a sweater as I write this). I’m waiting for the morning when we wake up to that clear, blue sky that decisively, unapologetically, brushes aside the marine layer… you’ll know it when you see it. In the meantime, we’ve got some summering to do! Several more concert and movie series kick off this weekend, along with a few favorite summertime events. I hope to see you out there!
Native Harvest presents the Redondo Beach Night Market tonight, Thursday, June 27 from 5 to 9 p.m. in the parking lot of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church and every Thursday night during the summer months. The Night Market vendors offer an array of hot and prepared foods for purchase, seating area, DJ, and kid’s corner for the little ones. For additional information, visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/nativeharvestevents/. Local acts and musicians will be performing live on the Community Stage both days so be ready to rock. The little ones will delight in the carnival rides and games and adults will appreciate the Beer & Wine Garden, where they can sit back and take in the ocean view, sea breezes and great music while enjoying a refreshing adult beverage. New for 2019 … Friday night has been added. Enjoy carnival rides, a beer garden with live entertainment and food trucks. Sorry, no arts and crafts booths, no free parking/shuttle service. You don’t want to hassle with parking, so leave the car at home and take out the bicycles or use the free shuttle service to and from the event from the South High parking lot. Spohn Ranch and the City of Los Angeles teamed up to build a new Skate Park at Harbor City Park which opened last week. The 11,000 square foot skate park occupies an under-utilized space in the southwest corner of the park, at the intersection of Lomita Boulevard and Belle Porte Avenue. The final design features Spohn Ranch’s signature design principles – a smart blend of street and transition-style terrain, an architectural design aesthetic and obstacles that speak to the full spectrum of skill levels. The Skate Park is so new, it’s not even listed on the City’s website, so I don’t have a link with more info but you can view an image at https://www.southbaybyjackie.com/new-skate-park-harbor-city/.
