The Palos Verdes Art Center presents the Opening Reception: Echiko Ohira – Works in Paper on Friday, September 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibition features large-scale paper sculptures that echo distantly the forms of the natural world, made of countless layers of craft and recycled paper that are torn, stacked, and sewn into shapes that might be the memories of nests, sea creatures, and flowers. Other, smaller works form orbs of twisted paper intertwined with other elements: delicate networks of knotted string or twisted wires that hover over the globes like sea foam drifting on tiny worlds.
