Waste Management of Southern California Named a Champion of the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015
Special Olympics World Games and WM are teaming up to ensure that both athletes and their fans keep this year's Games golden and green

As international athletes round out their training schedules and head to Los Angeles for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games on July 25, Waste Management of Southern California is reminding participants and their supporters to be eco-friendly during the games.
The 2015 Special Olympics World Games will kick off on Saturday, July 25 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and are expected to attract more than 500,000 spectators at event locations throughout the Los Angeles area through August 2.
“Showing pride in these inspiring athletes and cheering on their successes aren’t the only ways to show support at this year’s Special Olympics,” said Jeff Carr, Chief Operating Officer of LA2015, the Games Organizing Committee. “This year we are teaming up with Waste Management to encourage participants to be eco-friendly when celebrating the many displays of courage and skill at the World Games.”

As a leader in sustainability, Waste Management is committed to making it easy and convenient for all spectators and athletes to properly place their materials during the games. Waste Management will provide complimentary trash, recycling, sharps and medical waste services at Special Olympic event locations, including the Alamitos, Belmont Pier, Marine Stadium and Aquarium Way beaches. Recycling Ambassadors will also be on-site to help educate spectators on proper recycling. The Games in the areas sponsored by Waste Management will include 6,500 Special Olympics athletes from 165 countries competing in events such as beach volleyball, cycling, half marathon, triathlon, sailing and kayaking.
“We are very excited to see the 2015 Special Olympics World Games taking place in Los Angeles and even happier to announce we’ll be a Champion of the Games,” said Kim Ohrt, community affairs manager for Waste Management of Southern California. “To ensure everyone is doing their part, we ask that all attendees go for the gold and properly dispose of their trash and recyclables while cheering on their favorite athletes.”
